THE SITUATION
Vencora is a financial services software portfolio company within the Constellation Software (TSX: CSU) family. With 19 portfolio companies, more than 1,900 team members, and clients across 77 geographies in banking and insurance, it operates like most acquisitive software groups: each company runs independently, with lean central support.
That structure works until something routine becomes a coordination problem.
Check processing was one of those things. On the outbound side: check stock in Alabama, a general manager in Florida, a CFO in Canada. Issuing a single check required routing physical stock across state lines, securing a senior signature, and having that person carry it to a post office. For state tax payments that come due once or twice a year, a senior executive was personally managing postal logistics.
Inbound was messier. As portfolio companies shifted to remote operations, checks arriving at physical offices landed with whoever happened to be nearby. Staff absorbed deposit runs for multiple businesses on top of their own roles. Checks sat on desks for days. Cash flow slowed. Nobody wanted the job.
Every check represented coordination overhead, compliance exposure, and dependency on whoever happened to be available. The task was unpleasant, created risk, and consumed time senior people did not have. The case for outsourcing was obvious. The question was who to trust with it.
WHY COVENIR
The decision came down to one question: who could be trusted to handle this reliably, without introducing new operational risk in place of the old one.
The deciding factor wasn’t a checklist of standards, it was proven trust. Covenir’s operational environment was built for insurance carriers: fireproof storage, video-recorded handling, proof-of-mailing on every outbound piece, and compliance infrastructure most BPO providers do not carry. That environment exists because Covenir handles processes where a single error can affect a multi-million dollar claim decision. Vencora’s needs are more routine: a vendor payment deposited on time, a check mailed correctly. But if a provider can be trusted with the highest-stakes version of this work, trusting them with the routine version isn’t even a question.
There was also a simpler factor. Covenir is a Constellation Software company. Vencora is a Constellation Software company. That shared portfolio meant the procurement overhead and trust building period that typically slow vendor decisions did not apply. The conversation went straight to the work.
As Lyndon put it when recommending Covenir to peers: “The compliance infrastructure, the handling standards, it’s all there. It already exists, built for work where mistakes aren’t an option. That’s not something you ask a vendor to prove. You inherit it.”
GETTING STARTED
Inbound setup required two things: a new mailing address and granting deposit-only bank access.
Outbound was straightforward to understand even before going live. Covenir accepts PDF uploads via SFTP, so if a company’s accounting system can export a PDF of a check, nothing else is required. For low-volume cases, digital signatures can be applied directly in the accounting system or handled by Covenir.
Scope has since expanded to cover an additional company in the portfolio with no incremental setup burden.
THE OUTCOME
Checks are deposited on schedule, outbound obligations are met without internal coordination, and the operational risk that came with a fragmented multi-location workflow is gone.
The team no longer carries a task that pulled attention away from core work. As scope expanded to an additional company, the same standards and the same reliability transferred without friction.
As Lyndon put it, “The problem is solved. Checks get deposited faster than ever, no more scrounging and begging staff to make runs. All of it processed to the same standards Covenir built for carriers handling million-dollar claims.” For Vencora, that means a partner they can rely on, not just to complete the task, but to do it right.

“What made the decision easy wasn’t a claim about standards, it was Covenir’s track record on the highest-stakes work we could hand them. Once you’ve seen that, everything else is routine by comparison.”
